Biography

I am a researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), specializing in water resources within the Civil Engineering Department. I am also a member of the Disaster Risk Management in Social Infrastructure Research Group (GERDIS). I hold a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Belgium, where I successfully defended my dissertation, "Climatic and Anthropogenic Influences on Erosion and Sediment Yield in Andean Basins," in early 2022. My academic background is in Civil Engineering. My research focuses on sediment transport and erosion processes in relation to environmental drivers and climate variability, with a particular emphasis on the Andean region at both watershed and regional scales. Additionally, I have contributed as a researcher to the Natural Infrastructure for Water Security (INSH – USAID) project, investigating the role of natural infrastructure in mitigating erosion and landslides in Andean landscapes. To date, I have published peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals, including Geomorphology, Journal of Hydrology, Science of the Total Environment, among others. I have also co-authored a book chapter and a Policy Brief. Furthermore, I have presented my research at international, regional and national conferences, including the AGU 2024 in Washington, D.C., the XXXI Latin American Conference on Hydraulics in Medellín, Colombia and Congreso Nacional del Agua in Ica, Peru last year. In addition to my research activities, I mentor undergraduate and graduate students in thesis projects related to hydrology, hydraulic design, soil erosion, sediment transport, river hydraulics, and natural infrastructure.
