Biography

I investigate tropical ornithology, plant-animal interactions, conservation with local communities, and science-faith topics. My research about nectarivorous birds' ecology helped identify keystone species in a threatened ecosystem of the Peruvian Andes: The Carpish Mountains in the department of Huanuco. This research was used to justify the creation of protected areas in the cloud forest (Area de Conservacion Regional Bosque Montano de Carpish and Area de Conservacion Privada Bosque de Unchog). I have published more than 50 papers in English and Spanish about bird ecology and conservation. Currently, I am the environmental program coordinator and associate professor of Biology at Anderson University (South Carolina, USA). I plan to bring students to these protected areas in the Peruvian Andes. I am also on the board of the research NGO Grupo Aves del Peru, developing projects on bird research and conservation.
