Biography

Catherine Tucker's research focuses on human-environment interactions, emphasizing community-based natural resource management, climate change adaptation and environmental governance. Most of her research occurs in mountainous areas, and she co-founded the Mountain Sentinels Network. From 2014-2021, she served on the Scientific Leadership Committee for the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), and as leader of MRI's Mountain Governance Working Group (2018-2023). Currently she is working with Honduran coffee growers, cooperatives and local water committees to evaluate their experiences with climate change, political economic difficulties and related stressors. These groups show commitment to collective action, innovative practices, and constructive relationships with external actors, which highlight opportunities and challenges for socioeconomic and ecological sustainability in Central America. More broadly, her work explores changing contexts for governance of mountain socio-ecological systems and common-pool resources, and associated struggles to decolonize and transform inequitable relations of power. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
